Repetition in art
Repition is used by different artists: 3 of which being Yayoi Kusama,Donald Judd and Sol LeWitt.
Yayoi Kusama
Yayoi Kusama was a Japanese artist who works primarily in sculpture and installation and is also active in painting. Yayoi uses many different patterns that are repeated through her art such as shapes and dots or small circles which she tends to spread around all over the place in either smaller or larger. Dots are used in almost all her arts to show the different visuals of shapes and objects that she makes in order to give off an emotion about how or what she does that is important for her.
This art of Yayoi Kusama shows the use of many different dots which shows her creativity when it comes to art. The use of dots are repeated as mentioned before making it stand out more in the 3d space.
This artwork shows repetition from the repeated use of the dots and as well as the lines which are used to create the pumpkins creating unity.
Donald Judd
Donald Clarence Judd was an American artist associated with minimalism who is also an artist that used repetition in his art.Minimalism is all about owning only what adds value and meaning to your life,Donald judd used shapes such as squares and rectangles in order to create cubes mostly associated with simplified composition while avoiding personal expression and spatial illusion. His artwork mostly uses the same forms of shapes again and again repeatedly making him one of the artists who used repetition in their work.
this artwork also shows the use of detachment by detaching the objects from one another.
Sol LeWitt
Sol LeWitt was an American artist linked to various movements such as the use of wavy lines which the artist has shown to have repeat when using the pattern. Sol LeWitt was also associated with minimalism which is the way of drawing or keeping in things that are important to the person. One of his artwork uses different types of lines which is shown to be very colorful and illusionary in some cases.
This shows a very repetitive art which uses lines overlapping with another and again.
This is also another repetitive artwork from the use of lines.
